happy 101th post!
Tuesday, August 31, 2010

i think 101th post is so much special than 100th post! coz 100th post is like whoa but 101th post is like WHOA! why is it that the tall building in taipei is called taipei 101 and not 100? what about the 101 dalmatians, huh? why isn't it called 100 dalmatians?

heehee(:

today is 31st AUGUST! :O tomorrow is 1st SEPTEMBER! :O and september is the month in which we join

MAIN BAND *gasp*

anyways, WISH YOU ALL THE BEST BATCH XIII (why don't we have a batchname yet T.T)

i hope we have fun in main band haha xD and with each other's help we can scale greater heights together! we'll always be there for each other, right?

Happy 100th post!

Sometimes I wonder if blogs' birthdays are posts.

That'd be nice, won't it.

Yeah, so blog, I hope you have had a happy 100 posts and will have many more to come. :)

Like really. That's from the bottom of my heart. The non-existent bottom.

Yay! I just made the 100th post!

I'm starting to think that this blog is simply a mask for how un-bonded we are. Like, seriously. More than half the batch have NOT seen this blog. We should like spend 1 hour like before Wednesday band prac in the IT lab for everyone to like at least SEE the blog. For once. And it's the same ppl posting again and again. You know, actually, though our seniors' blogs may be quite empty, they ARE bonded in real life and even with our rather active blog, we can't really compare to them.

Or can we?

Was just thinking who would actually SEE this post and who would actually care because, as I just typed, no one visits the blog. This is getting so ironic.

Ahh... if we continue this way, our batch will be really unbonded and next year there'll be like less than half the batch left. Maybe thats exaggerating, but still. AHH.

If only we could have a full batch outing...

Anyway, for batch outing the details have not been ironed out. Sorry! To whoever who thinks thats a sorry thing.

im being pessimistic. I know, but its true, aint it?

Or not?

it's a very very old song ._. but the tune's quite catchy heehee

jEnNy:B

LYRICS:

When the night has come
And the land is dark
And the moon is the only light we'll see
No I won't be afraid, no I won't be afraid
Just as long as you stand, stand by me

And darlin', darlin', stand by me, oh now now stand by me
Stand by me, stand by me

If the sky that we look upon
Should tumble and fall
And the mountains should crumble to the sea
I won't cry, I won't cry, no I won't shed a tear
Just as long as you stand, stand by me

And darlin', darlin', stand by me, oh stand by me
Stand by me, stand by me, stand by me-e, yeah

Whenever you're in trouble won't you stand by me, oh now now stand by me
Oh stand by me, stand by me, stand by me

Darlin', darlin', stand by me-e, stand by me
Oh stand by me, stand by me, stand by me

Dear Seniors,

I read Jenny's previous post and I would just like to say that if you're angry at our batch for what was posted a while back, please don't be angry at Jenny :) Because I think it was what I posted that triggered this, and as far as I know, Jenny is a very nice, sweet girl whom I see is popular with many seniors!!! So I would just like to apologise and say that, looking back, I do realise that what I posted could be interpreted in a negative way because of how I phrased it, and I have deleted it altogether. However, I would also appreciate it if you understand that I certainly did not intentionally make it offensive. I'm really really sorry! ._.

Hey batch'13:)

So, we're moving to the new batch corridor soon! I wonder whether I should be happy or sad about this...:P

Alright, so I have been stressing a lot on batch bonding... Which is actually a really boring topic for me, but whatever lah. Anyway, devni, I like the poem. But I DO not have any problems with long tones!!!! Well maybe sometimes with my a natural, but not always....coming back to the point of batch bonding, I feel that we ALWAYS have problems communicating with each other, for example, some of us are like really hard to communicate with in terms of contact cos sometimes you're just not online or reachable in that particular timing, but that's not your fault... So we really must take the initiative to READ THE BATCH BLOG / CHECK EMAILS regularly k? Cos that'll make it easier to pass on updates, important stuff like outings etc.

Something else to take note of: we really need everyone to help out in activities, like batch outings and whatever. You don't have to be like a permanent batch helper to help in organizing! We should really encourage each other to take part in organizing activities in terms of your strengths and abilities, but I'm sure the batch will understand each other's limitations and boundaries...won't we? XD after all, we could really broaden our horizons by trying ou new stuff...who knows, you may discover new abilities that you didnt ever know you had! :)

Finally, being in a batch with so many people will definitely cause really different views and opinions, and we may go through a few rough patches... That's okay, as long as we work together and accept our differences, I'm sure everything will turn out well.;)

Jiayou batch!!:)

Hey!

We're kinda promoted to Sec 2! Haha yay!

I wonder when we'll be like getting our scores.

Anyway no need to worry lah. Because

1. You've got ME! (haha so ego) And of course, the rest of the batch.
2. You are awesome!
3. We are BATCH XIII! And we're having our September outing!

Haha. My reasons all no link; but you'll see the link, because we xin ling xiang tong! :)

Anyway, I think there's not much to worry about joining main band because (these are good reasons.)

1. Dozens of batches have gone through it; SO CAN WE!!!
2. We will give each other all the support we can give; and just as comfort is multiplied when shared, pain (haha not very pain but well) is divided when shared. :) Quote the Giver, (something along the lines of ) "the worst thing about the Memories is not their pain; it's the loneliness of having them". So we'll go through SYF together! Hopefully it will pull us tighter as a batch.
3. Since everyone in main band has gone through it, they'll UNDERSTAND. I don't think our seniors will be cruel or something to like laugh at us, or scold us till we cry or anything like that. But if they do anyway, it's all part of the RGSSB experience, which brings me to the 4th point:
4. It's a new learning experience. Anyway life is filled with many obstacles; many of them more tobefeared than this. Since there are so many, you may as well treat them positively. Who can tell you "no" when you only believe in "yes"? Who can tell you "you can't" when all you know is "you can"?

:)

HELLO PLLL.
okay this is very corny, a compiled haiku done by me so as to cause u discomfort but at the same time, to encourage thengyi and those who still cant play their long notes. like me.

kay. so here it is, as i said, VERY corny, so please bear with once again. i had nothing to do.

Passing days be gone
Without a trace, memories
Flit out, forgotten

Glance out the window
Insanity dissipates
Takes its place comfort

A series of past
Events, inevitable
Contours of sorrow

Fear shall not prevail
In the face of endeavour
With it wanes indolence

Toiling is the key
To pave out the future’s way
You, my friends, are apt

We shall look back to
These days, and mourn the silence
Of encouragement

YO Batch:)

I'm sad that the sec 4s are leaving. Or rather, they have left. And we're not really THAT close to them. :(

So anyway, I have NOT been a very faithful blogger for our (quite?) active batch blog. So I decided to post for like the one time after donkey years. I'm so sorry okay? :(

Anyway, so Farewell is over. It was indeed really sad, but I could see that the sec 3s and 2s put in lots of effort, but we like did things at the last minute, which is BAD. Though we barely pulled through with our puppets, I still think we need to be more bonded and plan stuff properly instead of rushing before Farewell, and also for other stuff. We're not very bonded (as usual), with all the different opinions flying here and there, and that took us a great deal of time to even DECIDE on a batch item. 2 weeks, I think. Or more. So I don't think it can go on like this if we have to work together as a batch for the next 3 years. So i think we have to do something about it. Like maybe an outing? Haha the YOG village thing is one! But not everyone's going, right? :( Its coming soon! :DDD

I had a great deal of fun doing the sock puppets and I would really like to thank Jiamin, Jenny and Xinying for doing the hard job of giving out the letters and organising the sock puppet creations. Thanks so much. I really haven't done anything. I'm sorry. I shall try harder next time. Hehe Xinying would be a great photographer. :) I want to help in organising stuff next time! :) lie any outings, big events like farewell ( we could have done much better if we had put in more time and effort not stoning XD) and stuff like that. It'll be fun. Remember, we have 3 years together, so we might as well make things work. After all, who wants a quarrelsome 3 years where we glare at each other while playing tunes? :)

Anyway. WE ARE ENTERING MAIN BAND SOON. :O I'm worried. I can't even play my warm-ups properly. But we're entering as a batch, so JIAYOU EVERYONE! :D I'm sure that we can conquer this big obstacle and have fun in the process. ;) I'm scared that all the seniors will glare at me if I suddenly make a squeak with my instrument or i'm not able to play in tune or i run out of breath fast...etc. I can go on and on with my fears but I think i'm scaring everyone. Sorry. :p

So, that's about it. Jiayou everyone! :)

THENGYI~

Letter to Sec 4s:

It has been a great pleasure to know you all, to learn from you all and grow, no matter how little, with you all. A great honour. The very highest. Thus it is with great sadness that we bid farewell to you, to your laughter, to your craziness, to your "serious"-ness, to your niceness, your entirety in being you. Here, what we want to say isn't that we can't live without you. We can live without you, but we just don't want to. Although our acquaintance has been short, all we have of you are fond memories, memories we don't want to forget, memories we never want to. It is these memories that shall last us in your absence. Perhaps, just perhaps, one day they'll be memories made into the present, just like a cartoon made real. Perhaps, just perhaps, one day we'll cross paths again and upon looking back on the long ribbon laid out as our past path, find that it once crossed. Perhaps, just perhaps, we can sit together, laugh and play, not just as a Sec 1-Sec 4 relationship, but as people, friends, comrades.

Love, Batch XIII

A very informal post. With two pictures.

Yo ppl!

AHHHH WHY THE POSTS IN FRONT OF MINE SO SCARY AND FORMAL AND AHHHHHH!!!! Sorry. So.

Oh oh, the presents that me and Clara gave was this VERY VERY NICE BOX (each) that we decorated last Tuesday and had this cute prawn-looking dolphin inside (well, it looked like a prawn before we added the fins and mouth :/) look at the picture below and you'll see.

See???? PRAWN!!!!! (That's a McDonalds' fries packet in the background.)

I even used that prawn as my profile picture on msn :/
And the box was decorated with foam marine creatures that we bought from Art Friend (oh shoot, haven't return her the money yet. Oops.) And were personalized with seniors' names!! I think it was quite....lame...after we saw our Sec2s/3 presents. Haiz. But it's cute what. Haha!

The marine creatures! Not that we used them all.

Ok, so our batch item wasn't quite nice. Whatever. I dunno. NO LAST MIN WORK NEXT TIME! ok? xD And practice makes perfect. Or so I think. Haha, but it was fun while it lasted.

OH can I be the batch photographer?? please please please!!!! :) :) :) more please!!! And the MODEST me does not really mind the bringing of materials and helping of ppl. But thank you all the same :D (sometimes I wonder why I can be so ego.)

Jenny, thanks a mil for doing almost everything for us such as planning stuff and blahs!! :) Eeek, so sorry, didn't know you couldn't sleep!!!!!!!!! I feel so guilty. Ahh, next time tell me, maybe I can help. Or some other random ppl. And I dun think I will ever be able to worry too much about something (no offence or anything.) cos I can NEVER be emo even if I tried.

TWO DAYS AGO WAS LEFT HANDERS' DAY!!! (Clap for me and Jenny!)

I can be ego but nvr emo. LOL.

Right, so our batch item has been solved. Good or bad I can't say, but here's what I think were good and could be better.

Positive:
1. We did finish off all our stuff. Everyone did their part.
2. Most of us had presents for our seniors, which is commendable, even if it was a kinda-last-min effort. Speaking of which, I haven't given mine.
3. Special credit to Jenny for not sleeping well for a few days in terrible worry for our batch item, for organising it as a whole and stuff like that, even if she was rushing her Bio PT. See, AREN'T YOU ALL SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO ASHAMED OF YOURSELVES? She even called half the people!!! :) Thanks to Xin Ying too, for offering your materials. Of course, thanks to all who did your stuff and thank those who have helped you!!!

Can be improved:
1. Planning could have been done more in-advance, instead of the day before. This we really need to work on as a batch. And more people should take initiative to rush us like 1 week before or something.
2. Accompanies the first point. We would have needed more practice. So we wouldn't be timid or unwilling, like, just before the item and of course during the item.

Yup! Haha. I found more good points than bad points, or at the least they're the same. We didn't do such a bad job. Just that we didn't do such a good one either. Haha. :)

So now this is an event of the past:

The past has now gone
Figment of our memories
Time to go, move on.

Haha, a haiku.

So now we plan a batch outing. :):):):):) And take steps to improve cohesion between the different sections in our recruit band community. Haha.

1. MORE BATCH OUTING
2. MORNING BATCH MEETING??? (Speaking of which, 2 people strongly disagreed. If you strongly disagreed, could you tell me why, (you could be anonymous if you prefer) by answering on the tagboard?
3. PHOTOS ON THE BLOG (BATCH PHOTOGRAPHER???)

Haha. Can't think of anymore. So fail. Anyway.

the past has long gone
far ahead the future lies
now is the moment

divided we fall
though learnt the hard way, we know
together we shine

Haha. My haikus are like, fail-er and fail-er. Never mind.

Love,
Me (duh.)

Batch XIII
Raffles Girls' School (Secondary) Symphonic Band
#Band-Room
Singapore xiii10

Dear Batchmates,

FAREWELL TO OUR SEC 4 SENIORS

Today was our Sec 4's farewell.

If you remembered, an hour before the start of Band session, all of us (save the Basses) gathered in one of the shared classrooms in J2 to prepare for our Batch Farewell Item for the Sec 4s. We were making sock puppets and rushing presents for our respective section Sec 4s. Because of that, our whole batch was late for attendance-taking. I found that really amusing. Yet scary at the same time. I wonder what our seniors were thinking when none of us turned up for attendance-taking. (I wonder what the person taking the Sec 1s' attendance was feeling!)

We were rather dismayed that we were not given an hour to prepare for our Farewell item as we were not really ready yet and we did not practice at all. On the schedule, it mentioned that there was 1h of Batch Prac but I thought it was only for the Main Band so the Sec 1s get to do whatever we want. It wasn't. Batch Prac was for the Main Band to play the pieces that they once played and the Sec 1 just sit there and listen. I was kind of freaking out because we did not have time to practice our item but overall, I think it was worth it sitting there and listening to our seniors sight-read the scores and screwing up.

After Batch Prac it was Section Farewell. We broke up into sections and went to our respective venues to wish our section Sec 4s goodbye. The Sec 4s in the clarinet section were: Yi Wye (section leader), Josephine (she's the sister of one of my direct!) and Tian Yu. We exchanged presents. The Sec 1, Sec 2 and Sec 3 gave the Sec 4 presents and the Sec 4s gave their section batchmates, Sec 3s, Sec 2s and Sec 1 presents (but us sec 1s received less presents because they don't really know us). I feel that out of all the presents the Sec 4s received, the Sec 1s' presents to them were the most 随便 which makes me feel very bad.

After Section Farewell, we headed to the AVA Room for the Farewell items. The Sec 1s went first. What we did was: every section went out one by one and made the sock puppets that they made (each sock puppet represents each of their senior) sing a short song about their seniors (to the tune of "This Old Man"). We spent a lot of time getting ready and I think the performance could have been a lot better (if only we had time to practice). But at least the seniors found our performance cute and funny. The plan was to give a thank you speech after the whole song and then present the sock puppets to the respective seniors but we missed out the sock puppets giving part. Which I find kind of sad. But I gave the puppet me and Sarah made to the senior the puppet represents, Tian Yu.

Comparing our Farewell Item to the other batches', I find our item to be rather fail and last-minute. Never mind next year we can do a better one for our directs! We must, we can and we will!

After every batch's Farewell Item, the EXCO 2011 result was released. And the results for the three most important people are:

Student Conductor: Hui Jun! (Trombone)
Drum Major: Yi Xian! (Double Bass)
Band Major: Vivian! (Saxophone)

Don't you find it amusing that this year's Drum Major is Yixian and next year's Drum Major is Yi Xian? My direct, Ying Qin also has a lot of EXCO positions: Eflat Clarinet Soloist, Section Leader, Treasurer. Congratulations to all the respective seniors!

Then, we went back to the Band Room and took our dismissal. The last time Batch X will be taking the dismissal with us.

Anyways, I want to thank all the people who contributed to the Farewell Item, which is actually everyone. Thank you for going out there and performing for the Sec 4s! Special thanks goes out to Jia Min for coming up with the idea of the sock puppet show and helping to inform everyone about it. And thank you too Xin Ying for providing the materials and helping a lot of people with their sock puppets.

Sorry if you found me being irritating, annoying, naggy and selfish before, during and after the Farewell Item. I was kind of freaking out over it. I didn't want our performance to turn out screwed since it was for our seniors. I'm really sorry.

I really love you all, Batch XIII.

Yours sincerely,
Jenny Tsai
